Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about EV charging, solar integration, and our services.

We're here for your any queries anytime

What is a Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 charger?

Level 1 chargers use a standard household socket and provide slow charging (ideal only for emergencies).

Level 2 chargers are dedicated home or workplace chargers, delivering much faster charging speeds the most popular choice for UK households.

Level 3 (Rapid/Ultra-Rapid) chargers are public units that can charge an EV to 80% in as little as 20-40 minutes.

At VoltPoint Energy, we specialise in home and business Level 2 installations that balance speed, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?

Charging costs depend on your energy tariff and vehicle battery size. On average:

5–15p per mile (much cheaper than petrol/diesel).

Example: Fully charging a 60kWh EV battery typically costs around £12 on a standard tariff, or less with an off-peak EV energy plan.

We can advise you on the best EV-friendly energy tariffs to reduce your long-term charging costs.

What is smart EV charging?

Smart chargers connect to Wi-Fi and  and allow you to:

Schedule charging at cheaper offpeak hours.

Track energy usage from your phone.

Optimise charging based on your car’s onboard system.

Future-proof your setup for solar and battery storage.

All Rolec chargers we supply are smart ready, giving you complete control and savings.

Can solar panels charge my EV?

Yes. When combined with solar panels and a home battery system, you can power your EV using renewable energy. VoltPoint Energy installs chargers that are solar compatible, so you can upgrade later without replacing your charger.

This makes your home more sustainable and protects you from rising energy prices.

Do you offer grants or discounts for EV charger installations?

Yes, through the OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS), businesses can claim up to £350 per socket (up to 40 sockets) and up to £2,500 per socket with Rolec's new Hex Charger.

For residential customers, while the previous OZEV grant ended in 2022 for most homeowners, some specific cases (like rental properties or flats) may still qualify. We’ll guide you through the process if you’re eligible.

What warranty do your chargers come with?

Rolec chargers come with a standard 3 year warranty.

Customers who subscribe to our aftercare package receive an extended 5 year warranty, plus priority support.

This ensures your charger is fully protected and supported for the long term.

What does your aftercare package include?

Our aftercare package gives you peace of mind with:

Extended 5 year warranty on Rolec products.

Priority call out support.

Annual system health check.

Remote monitoring and updates.

Think of it as insurance for your EV charging system ensuring it runs smoothly for years.

Who installs my EV charger? Are they qualified?

All installations are carried out by NICEIC/NAPIT certified electricians with experience in EV charger installations.

Even though VoltPoint Energy is a growing company, we partner with OZEV approved installers (like our lead subcontractor) to ensure every install is fully compliant, safe, and grant eligible.

How long does an installation take?

Most home installations take 2-4 hours.

Business installs vary depending on the number of chargers and site complexity.

We always conduct a free site survey first to give you an accurate timeline.

What if I already own an EV charger?

We can check compatibility, upgrade your charger, or provide ongoing aftercare and warranty cover even if we didn’t install it.
